The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County held a it's annual Hearts For Helping wine and cheese tasting event at the Madison Concourse on Friday night.
The event, which raise more than $100,000, also included news of a new $3 million fundraising campaign that will benefit youth education programs including college prep programs, a key component to Madison superintendent Dan Nerad's achievement gap plan.
"We have to invest in them right now," said Michael Johnson, BGCDC CEO. "Every day that we wait, we lose young people. So our staff, our volunteers and our board, we had a sense of urgency to ask our community not to give to the Boys and Girls Club, but to invest in these young people's lives."Johnson said the local chapter has already raised a third of the money which will also be used to hire parent liaisons, additional tutors and certified teachers.
