The oldest of the Chocolate Shoppe locations -- established on State Street in 1964 -- got a revamp recently, restructuring the space to update fixtures and decor.

Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. spokeswoman Rebecca Stoffs said new floors, ceilings, drywall, lights and decorations were installed, closing the store from December to mid-February.

The State Street Shoppe re-opened Feb. 15 and celebrated the change March 9 with ice cream specials and activities like tie-dying T-shirts.

Chocolate Shoppe co-owner Steve Heaps also attempted to break the world record Saturday for fastest scooper, which was set in New York at 19 scoops by a Baskin Robbins franchise owner.

Stoffs said Heaps did not break the record; he was five scoops short. She said Heaps plans to tweak his technique and attempt the record again sometime in the future.
