City to test lane reduction plan on John Nolen Drive

City to test lane reduction plan on John Nolen Drive

The Madison Traffic Engineering Department will eliminate a third, lightly-used through lane from Broom Street to North Shore Drive temporarily.

By eliminating the late, officials believe they can improve the pedestrian and bike crossing at the John Nolen Drive and North Shore Drive intersection as well as increasing the safety for northbound drivers making left turns from John Nolen Drive to westbound North Shore Drive.

The test would maintain the two heavily used through lanes. It is scheduled to run through May 28.

If the test proves that the lane reduction is desirable, the traffic control devices may be left in place until permanent changes are made in the field.

There is no significant traffic delay expected during the test, however, motorists are reminded to drive cautiously through the test zone, officials said.
