Landscaper Injured While Trying To Stop Runaway Truck

An employee of a local landscaping company that contracted work with the University of Wisconsin suffered broken bones after trying to stop his truck from rolling down a hill near the intersection of Charter and Linden streets, according to the UW Police Department.

Officers said they were called to the intersection on Monday afternoon at about 4:40 p.m.

The 26,000-pound truck was carrying a load of sod when it started to roll down a hill. The contractor tried to stop the vehicle, but he was hurt when he became stuck between the truck and a light pole, police said.

The diver was kept at the hospital overnight, police said.

Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in inspecting the vehicle, but did not find any defect. No foul play is suspected, police said.
