Complete reconstruction of King, East Main streets starts Friday | News
A complete reconstruction of the 100 block of King Street and the 100 block of East Main Street will start Friday, according to a release.
Starting Friday, the 100 block of King Street will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project, officials said. The traffic route of East Main Street to South Pinckney Street will remain open through this weekend, but will close for the duration of the project starting on Monday.
Access to the Tenney Parking ramp will be maintained from Webster Street, according to the release. The 100 block of South Pinckney Street will be converted to two-way traffic to maintain on-street parking.
Madison Metro will be detouring four routes during construction.
All businesses in the area will remain open, and pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses, officials said. The project is expected to be finished in June.
As part of the King, East Main and Pinckney streets construction, Madison's Central Business Improvement District has created an online "Downtown Get Around Guide" with information on how to get to the area during the construction. The guide offers maps, alternate routes, construction phase information and parking.
