Camp Randall Memorial Park Receives Preservation Honor
Camp Randall Memorial Park Receives Preservation Honor

Although Camp Randall is a highly-prized piece of property in Madison, the site has been preserved as a memorial to Wisconsin’s veterans. For that, the 2011 Historic Preservation Stewardship Award will be presented for the long-term preservation of Camp Randall.

A reception will be held at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum in Madison at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

The award will be presented by the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation, whose goal is to provide leadership in the preservation of important historic places in the greater Madison area through advocacy, education and technical assistance.

The theme for the reception is the sesquicentennial anniversary of when Wisconsin joined the Civil War. Guests will receive a curator's guided tour of the new Civil War Sesquicentennial exhibit "1861, from Paper to Iron – Wisconsin Joins the Civil War." Lance Herdegen, the former director of the Institute of Civil War Studies at Carroll University and current Chair of the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Civil War Commission, will be the featured speaker.
