Police Search For Person Accused Of Bike Path Rage

Bike path rage was blamed for an altercation between a bicyclist and a roller skier last week.

Madison police said a 56-year-old man was roller-skiing home at about 2 p.m. on the path behind the Kohl Center when a bicyclist cut him off by making a quick turn in front of him.

The roller skier told police he called out to the biker, "Cutting it pretty close."

A few seconds later the roller skier came upon the biker again, who was now standing off his bike and blocking the path. As he approached, the bicyclist picked up bike and slammed it into the chest of the roller skier, causing the man to fall. The bicyclist then jammed the bike into his back and said, "Cutting it a little close." He then rode away laughing, police said.

The victim said he was going to let the bike path rage go, but the next day, his wife convinced him to report the violence to police.

The man is described as white, about 20 to 25 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, about 160 to 190 pounds, police said. He was wearing a knit hat and dark-rimmed glasses, police said. They said he was riding a newer bicycle with drop-style handlebars.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
