Police said a bike store clerk was able to pull a bike out from under a thief as he attempted to pedal away from a downtown Madison shop.
The Madison Police Department said 51-year-old Kip Kulman told the Budget Bicycles clerk he was browsing Monday at 4:30 p.m.
The 32-year-old clerk told police Kulman grabbed a $590 Raleigh bicycle and headed out of the shop. The clerk chased Kulman and was able to pull the bike out from under the suspected thief as he tried to pedal off.
An officer spotted Kulman walking on a bike path near Orchard Street and arrested him on suspicion of retail theft.
Police said Kulman does not have a permanent home address.
