Police: Man breaks window, says he mistakenly entered N. Breese Terrace home

A man broke a window to enter a downtown home early Wednesday and took alcohol from a basement refrigerator, police said.

The Madison Police Department said residents of a house on North Breese Terrace were sleeping at about 3:50 a.m. when they woke to the sound of breaking glass and called police.

Officers arrived to find a man in the basement taking a bottle of alcohol out of the fridge. According to the report, the 22-year-old man told police he was in Madison visiting friends but had become separated from them while out celebrating. He told police he thought the North Breese Terrace home was his friend's.

Police charged the Tennessee man with trespassing and damage to property.
