Beedy Chats With Beadle About ESPN, Facebook, Twitter

ESPN spent Monday in Madison to launch its Big 10 tour, and Badgers fans showed up in big numbers to cheer on the decision to start the series at the Memorial Union Terrace.

Michelle Beadle, co-host of "SportsNation", talked with us for about 10 minutes mid-morning as she and some of her producers worked to get the live show together. She talked about the changing media industry with the influx of social networking as well as her path to ESPN.

"When you start out everybody thinks (I hope to work at) ESPN," said Beadle. "But it was funny because I was working three jobs a year. I was doing NBA, working for People Magazine and I was working for people that were allowing me to overlap jobs and it was fun. I stayed busy and had enough diversity that eventually I was like "I'm not really interested in going to ESPN.""

Get A Behind-The-Scenes Look At ESPN's Stop In Madison

Anytime University of Wisconsin-Madison is first, the city and its passionate student population take notice.  On Monday, the Memorial Union Terrace was the first Big 10 campus to provide a backdrop for a newly launched ESPN effort focusing on the Big 10 conference.

It's not weird to see the terrace filled with cardinal and white, but what was unique was the addition of red and white signs from the ESPN network. The live radio broadcast of Colin Cowherd's sports talk show ran from 9 a.m. to noon and the ESPN2 show "SportsNation" will run from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Both used the same set snuggled in with beautiful Lake Mendota as a backdrop to start their Big Ten Tour.

Kitchen Fire Damages Eagle Heights Apartment

City of Madison Firefighters were called to a fire at 944 Eagle Heights St. on Thursday at about 10:30 a.m. Fire officials said that nobody was home at the time of the fire.

The fire was discovered by upstairs neighbors to the 6-unit structure, according to officials. The neighbors reported smelling smoke and found it coming through the vents in their apartment.

When they looked outside, they observed smoke coming from windows on the first floor and notified authorities. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police were first on scene.
